Navigating Your MarketBase Dashboard

Your MarketBase dashboard has four main sections, each telling you something different about where your business stands. You do not need to memorise anything or work through it in order. Just open it up and look around.

This is your quick orientation so nothing feels unfamiliar the first time you log in.

In this article

  1. 1. Your three headline numbers and what they mean
  2. 2. The four dashboard sections: 360 Check, Market Ladder, Marketing Compass, Map View
  3. 3. How to read each section without feeling overwhelmed
  4. 4. First steps to get comfortable

Your three headline numbers

At the top of your dashboard, three numbers tell the story of your business in the local market.

Your Health Score (0 to 10) is a check-up result for your marketing, covering your Google listing, reviews, website, search visibility, and more. An 8 means things are solid. A 4 means there is real work to do.

Your Market Rank shows where you sit among actual local competitors. A dentist in Wellington is ranked against other Wellington dentists, not every dentist in the country.

Your Progress percentage tracks how many personalised recommendations you have completed. This is the number you control directly.

For more on how these connect, see How MarketBase Scores Work.

Key point

You do not need to understand everything at once. These three numbers give you an instant snapshot. The detail is there when you are ready.

The 360 Check: your marketing health by area

The 360 Check breaks your Health Score into individual areas. Think of it as a report card with separate marks for each subject. You might be strong on reviews but lagging on website quality, or leading on your Google listing but missing from local directories.

Each area shows a score so you can see at a glance where you are ahead and where you are behind. Most owners start with the area where they are furthest behind, because that is where the quickest gains are.

The Market Ladder: your competitive position

The Market Ladder is a visual leaderboard showing every business in your market ranked top to bottom, with yours highlighted. You can see who is above you, who is below, and how close the gaps are.

Picture this

Mike runs a plumbing business in Christchurch. He opens the Market Ladder and sees he is 6th out of 14 plumbers. The business in 5th is only slightly ahead on reviews.

A handful of new Google reviews could move him up a spot. That kind of clarity turns vague marketing anxiety into a concrete next step.

The Ladder updates as scores change, so when you improve you can watch your position shift.

The Marketing Compass: what to do next

The Marketing Compass generates personalised recommendations ordered by impact. Each one is specific and practical. Not "improve your online presence" but something you can actually do, like adding business hours to your Google listing or responding to recent reviews.

As you complete recommendations, your Progress climbs. Over time, this drives your Health Score up and your Market Rank with it.

Tip

Pick just one recommendation to start. Do the top item, come back for the next one when you have time.

The Map View: your market geographically

The Map View plots your business and competitors on an actual map. You can see where the competition clusters, where the gaps are, and how your area compares. You might discover the strongest competitors are across town, or that you are the only option in your neighbourhood.

You do not need to memorise anything or work through it in order. Just open it up and look around.

Getting comfortable

  • Scroll through the 360 Check to spot your strongest and weakest areas

15 minutes this week

  • Check the Market Ladder to see your rank and who is closest
  • Read your top three Marketing Compass recommendations and pick one to act on
  • Open the Map View to see where competitors sit geographically

Ongoing this month

Everything connects

The dashboard sections are different views of the same picture. The 360 Check shows your health, the Ladder shows your rank, the Compass tells you what to improve, and the Map shows where it plays out. As you work through recommendations, the effects ripple across every section.
