Your Health Score tells you how strong your marketing is. Your Market Rank tells you where you sit among competitors. Both are outcomes you can observe but not directly control. Progress is different. It measures what you have actually done, and it is the one metric entirely in your hands.
MarketBase gives every business personalised recommendations. Your Progress percentage tracks how many you have completed. No mystery, no hidden formula. Just a clear measure of action taken.
In this article
- 1. What Progress measures (and what it does not)
- 2. The chain from action to Health to Rank
- 3. Why recommendations are personalised, not generic
- 4. How to use Progress to drive improvement
What Progress actually measures
Progress is a percentage from 0% to 100%. It represents one thing: how many of your personalised recommendations you have completed. If MarketBase has identified 20 recommendations and you have completed 12, your Progress is 60%.
That simplicity is deliberate. Progress goes up when you complete a recommendation. It stays put when you do not.
Key point
Progress is not your Health Score. Health (0 to 10) measures marketing performance. Progress (0 to 100%) measures action taken. They track different things entirely.
Progress is also not your Market Rank. Two businesses can have very different Progress percentages and similar rankings if one started stronger. Progress tracks effort, not standing.
From action to results
The three metrics form a causal chain. Completing recommendations lifts your Progress. Those improvements strengthen your marketing, raising your Health Score. As Health improves relative to competitors, your Market Rank rises.
Action first, outcomes second, competitive position third.
Health and Rank can feel like verdicts. Progress reframes the conversation from "Where do I stand?" to "What have I done about it?"
You can increase Progress and not see your Health Score change straight away. That is normal. Health updates as new data comes in. Progress is a leading indicator that tells you what is coming.
Tip
If your score has not moved yet, keep going. The lag between action and outcome is normal. Trust the work.
Recommendations built for your business
MarketBase does not hand every business the same checklist. Your recommendations reflect where you stand right now, compared to your actual local competitors.
Picture this
Rachel runs a physio clinic in Hamilton. Her Progress shows 35%. The top items relate to her Google Business Profile: adding photos, updating her description, verifying her hours.
She spends 20 minutes completing three recommendations. Progress jumps to 50%. Two weeks later, her Health Score has noticeably improved.
Nobody asked her to become an SEO expert. The recommendations pointed her toward the gaps holding her back.
Items at the top of your list will make the biggest difference. Starting there means your early effort delivers the most return.
